What is financial planning?

Clear differences, clear benefits

We call ourselves financial planners. Not financial advisers or investment managers. While these titles are often used interchangeably, they represent distinct approaches – and the differences are significant. Instead of leaving you to guess these differences, we’ll break them down so you can understand the unique benefits of working with a financial planner.

Unpacking the details

Where do you see yourself in 5, 10, or even 20 years? Financial planning is more than just numbers – it’s about mapping out the life you want. We take a holistic approach to your finances, looking at every part of your financial picture: budgeting, savings, insurance, tax strategies, retirement, estate planning and more. Then, we create a bespoke plan tailored to your life goals, with regular adjustments based on your evolving circumstances.

How you benefit

  • You’ll come away with a structured financial plan and a roadmap for your future
  • No part of your financial picture is overlooked
  • Ensures you’re building wealth and preparing for the future
  • You’ll have control over your finances and feel confident that you’re on the right path.

Not all roles are the same

We’ve shared what we do, but let’s take a closer look at the other two roles.

  • Financial advisers typically focus on products, not long-term goals. They often provide advice on individual aspects of your finances, rather than creating a full, comprehensive plan.
  • Investment managers, on the other hand, are primarily focused on managing investments, not broader financial planning.

Independent vs tied or restricted advice

We are proud to be a truly independent financial planning firm.

Some of the most famous names in our industry are vertically integrated companies where planning, custodian services, investment management, and underlying investment funds may all be operated by the same company.

Our clients pay our fees directly, so we work solely for them, searching the whole market for the best custodian/ platform, fund management and investment management services.

Prioritising your needs, not ours

We regularly assess the various providers to ensure value for money and will recommend changes if a better combination of cost and service quality becomes available.

For some customers, a large national or even publicly listed firm with substantial offices, multiple layers of management, and expensive advertising, is a service they are happy to pay for.

Modern technology allows us to remain deliberately small and agile. All assets are securely held by third parties, ensuring that if anything happens to us, our clients remain unaffected.
